The other day, Dr. José-Abel Flores Villarejo, Director of the Spanish-Japanese Cultural Center of University of Salamanca has visited our gallery. It was a very enjoyable time, as Director Flores greatly loves Japan and a very intelligent and excellent person.
University of Salamanca Spanish-Japanese Cultural Center has an exhibition hall called “Michiko-sama Hall” named after the present Her Majesty the Empress Emerita Michiko. There, the artworks of Toshima Yasumasa of our gallery were returned to Spain and “Now Seek after Miguel de Unamuno ― Homage to Unamuno by a Japanese painter Toshima Yasumasa” Exhibition was held. Thus, we have had a deep relationship in the past.
This year, in 2023, from Oct ~ Nov(scheduled), an exhibition of Zen calligraphy and painting, and contemporary Zen art from our collection, focusing on “Zen” through the eyes of the Spanish is scheduled to be held at the gallery in the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo. For this exhibition, we will collaborate with two centers of spirituality and learning: Salamanca University in Spain, which has a history of 800 years, and Engakuji Temple in Japan, which has the same years of history. Once again, Salamanca University is deeply involved as the supporter, and the exhibition of our collection will be organized by the Spanish Embassy and our gallery. We are very happy to have such a wonderful and long-lasting relationship. We will be announcing this exhibition on our official website, so please stay tuned!
