Today is Momono-sekku, Ohinamatsuri (the Doll’s Festival), I would like to introduce a video shot in the studio by our little brother and sister (3-years and 1-year old) who are dressed as Ohina-sama and Odairi-sama!?
Of course, girls’ warm-colored robes are lovely, but it is also very festive for boys to wear brightly-colored kimonos. In modern times, men’s kimonos have an image of black and navy blue, but come to think of it, many of Odairi-sama sitting next to Ohina-sama are dressed in beautiful scarlet or gold-colored robes that are as beautiful as the Ohina-sama’s Jyuni-hitoe (Twelve-layered ceremonial kimono). The attitude of taking in beautiful things as they are, regardless of gender, is a good Japanese tradition that nurtures a sensitive heart.
