[Yasai-san] [Kudamon-san] Written by: tupera tupera

This time, I would like to introduce series of picture book [Yasai-san] and [Kudamono-san].

In both books, a person comes to a vegetable field and a fruit farm, and the story proceeds showing what kind of vegetables and fruits are there, and the person leaves after harvesting a large number of vegetables and fruits. As this book is for 0~3 years old, it has very little story, but they are the picture books with gimmicks, such as when a child turns the page with a wood or leaves are drawn, then a vegetable or a fruit turns up, so this is the point I think that a child could enjoy the most.

We bought this book at the time of the baby food start. When I myself thought on the eye level of a child, a question arose whether nowadays child could understand that vegetables and fruits on the table are planted and grown in the soil. Until the time when I was a child, there were still houses with garden even in the Tokyo area, and there were many chances of seeing a private vegetable gardening. However, recently we hardly have chance to see such sights.

Thanks to these books, our son naturally seemed to have learned that there are classifications of “vegetable” and “fruit” in the plant-life food. There are many children around 2-years-old who do not know the difference in the classification of vegetable and fruit. May be in this connection, I have heard from an educator that unless the parent actively teaches, there are number of children who are not able to classify vegetables from fruits are noticeable. The thing which is a matter of course to the adult, if abandoned, children may grow up not comprehending it, so I think it is important for the children to enjoy learning by picture books.
