My son recently is very fond of drawing pictures and making handcrafts. Though needing to be helped one by one, he is drawing and making variety of things using crayons and glue.
I ask him everytime, “What do you want to draw? (make?)” and make him do what he wants. And this week, he said “Okasan kaku (draw Mother)” for the first time. It was the first time he chose human-being as the subject, I was a little surprised. Up to last week, he seemed to have felt like drawing only objects such as animals, pinecones, cars and locomotives, and the interest of a child must to be expanding day to day.
The above image is the finished picture. Likeness portrait is not easy for even an adult to draw, but I find it interesting that it represents the characteristic of my face considering it is being drawn by a child. Because it is the viewpoint of a child, it might be possible to grasp the point free from the needless things.
