“Italian Landscape” by Tanaka Noboru

This time, entitled “Sounds of Italy” (Date: Sep.10, 2024 ~ Nov.30, 2024), we will exhibit works by Western-style painter Tanaka Noboru (1934-1982), who will be newly preserved and commemorated in Shigyo Sosyu Collection. According to Sosyu, Tanaka Noboru continued to paint melancholic Italian landscapes that remind one of Dante’s “The New Life”. However, Tanaka died young in 40s. This is the first time that works by this little-known painter will be exhibited. In the permanent exhibition, we will also exhibit works by Toshima Yasumasa (1934-2006), a Western-style painter who continued his painting career in Spain. We hope that you will be able to feel the works of these two painters who depicted the sounds rising from the earth.
ARTIS No.30 has the same title as the Exhibition, “Sounds of Italy,” and in the interview with Shigyo Sosyu, we will contemplate how to depict the sounds of the land, focusing on the works of the Western-style painter Tanaka Noboru, who has been newly preserved and commemorated in the Shigyo Sosyu Collection. We hope to have you take a look at the actual works and pick up a copy of ARTIS.
