“Toshima Yasumasa Exhibition” –Fire and Blackness of JOMON– Official leaflet

The period from Oct.24 (Sat.), 2020 to Jan.10 (Sun.), 2021 (Closed Dec.31, 2020 (Thurs.) ~ Jan.2, 2021 (Sat.)), at Akita Museum of Art “Toshima Yasumasa Exhibition” –Fire and Blackness of JOMON– will be held. Memorial Gallery of Toshima Yasumasa is fully participating, co-working and cooperating in planning with Toshima Yasumasa Executive Committee (Akita Prefecture, AKT Akita Television Co.,Ltd., Public Utility Foundation Hirano Masakichi Art Foundation). AKT Akita Television, a member of Toshima Yasumasa Executive Committee, in the noted program “Akita no Jinbutsu-den (Biography of Akita Personages)” Toshima Yasumasa will be featured. It will be aired on Sep.26 (Sat.) 15:30-16:25 (within Akita Prefecture). It closes in on Toshima’s homeland Kita-Akita, the cultural-climate that nurtured Toshima Yasumasa, and his early-life, artworks in Spain and his later life. Comments by Professor of Kokugakuin University Ms Koike Sumiko on his works and our Gallery Director Shigyo Sosyu will also appear in the interview and it came out to be an enriched program.

Along with this Exhibition, in the exhibition announcement site, special interview video“Who is Toshima Yasumasa?” by our Gallery Director Shigyo Sosyu will be opened (scheduled to open in October). Shigyo Sosyu was the model of Toshima Yasumasa’s last days as well as his sympathetic supporter, speaks on Toshima’s personality and his philosophical thought underlying his art, and the words exchanged in his last days together with numbers of paintings and photos. His responses to about 50 questions could be viewed according to your interest and it came out to be a great archives. I hope you will enjoy it!

We are also distributing Toshima Yasumasa and JOMON Journey Guidebook that our gallery made for this Exhibition, if you are interested please contact us. From Akita Museum of Art to JOMON historic site Isedotai remains in Toshima‘s homeland Kita-akita-shi, though it is compact, Shigyo Sosyu speaks on an interview article “JOMON and Toshima,” and also Akita city map and Kita-akita-shi guide map are provided.
