BIOTEC Information
On Oct.01, “ARTIS” (Latin for ‘art’) No.37, which introduces our gallery’s collection from various perspectives and has been well received by our readers, will be published. Under the theme “Gensō to Shinwa (Fantasy and Myth),” we contemplate what fantasy means in art and what kind of art emerges from myth. [Opening Page] “Pursuing an Artwork” introduces Western-style painter Hirano Ryo’s work ,
In addition, [Free Project] “Here and Now” features Zen Master Hakuin’s final years calligraphy piece “Kokuzō Bosatsu” and introduces the Kokuzō Gumonji-hō practice, which both Kūkai and Hakuin studied. In the visitors [Contribution] “My Eyes,” you can read a dewy fresh poem by Ms. Nakamura Michika, an art-special teacher at a Tokyo public elementary school, singing of ≪Shiroi Shinwa (White Myth)≫, a work painted by Toshima Yasumasa in his youth. Inspired by her encounter with this work at the Akita Museum of Art’s 2020 exhibition “Jōmon no Honō to Yami (Jōmon Flames and Darkness)–Yasumasa Toshima,” Ms. Nakamura wove this poem. We invite you to pick up a copy and read it.
“Kodai no Ibuki (Breath of Antiquity)” exhibition (July 29, 2025 – November 29, 2025) continues to be well-received. Works by Hirano Ryo, introduced at the beginning of ARTIS No.37, are also on display. We invite you to visit.
