From today, new display of “Zen and Bushido” Exhibition has started. The numerous works of pictorial art and calligraphy, including the first publicly displayed works, manifesting the Japanese Zen Philosophy・Bushido Spirit.
In this opening day, the Chief Priest Yokota Nanrei, the chief administrator of the Engaku-ji (Main temple in Kamakura) division of the Rinzai-sect of Buddhism, has visited our gallery. In this Exhibition, many of the Engaku-ji-division calligraphy by Imakita Kosen and Shaku Soen and others, are displayed. Among them, the very calligraphy by the Chief Priest Yokota Nanrei “Yuki kiete Shun-sui kitaru (Snow has melted away and Spring-water has come),” which recollects the scene perfectly suitable for the present season is also displayed. Yokota Chief Priest himself has a personality like the freshness and lucidity of the spring stream, and I was so delighted to meet him today.
The meaning of this calligraphy in Zen-words could be expressed that doubt and obscurity are cleared at once, as the spring snowmelt flows and reaches the state of enlightenment. We would be delighted to have you visit our gallery and experience the state of Zen. We await for your visit to our gallery.
