“ARTIS” No.38

On Dec.01, “ARTIS” (Latin for ‘art’) No.38, which introduces our gallery’s collection from various perspectives and has been well received by our readers, will be published. Under the theme “Shiki Shoyo (Four Seasons Stroll),” we contemplate the delicate view of nature that thrives in Japan, the passage of the seasons, and their interplay with art. The exhibition of the same title, “Shiki Shoyo (Four Seasons Stroll)” Exhibition will also be held from Sunday, Dec. 7 (Sun.) to Mar. 28 (Sat.). We sincerely hope you will take the opportunity to view the actual works during this period and look forward to welcoming you.

In the [Opening Page] Pursuing an Artwork, we focus the Japanese painter Yasuda Yukihiko’s “Haku Bai (White Japanese Apricot Blossoms). Yukihiko particularly cherished apricot blossoms among flowers and plants, and we introduce a short essay alongside images depicting him diligently sketching the trees planted in his garden. Incidentally, “Haku Bai” is a work especially favored by his son, art critic Mr. Yasuda Kenichi.

In the “Creators” corner, we will introduce the life of Kikuchi Keigetsu, one of the Japanese painters whose works are in our gallery’s collection, and delve into the secrets of his intellectual and inquisitive attitude and roots. In the [Free Project] Here and Now, we will explore what the painter wanted to express while contemplating the color expression of Hirose Kou’s “Tsurugi-dake Shoka (Mount Tsurugi in Early Summer).”

In “My Eyes,” a contribution by gallery visitors, you can read a contribution to Toshima Yasumasa’s “Fuyu no Tabi―Yottsu no Karin―(Winter Journey – Four Quinces)” by Mr. Kitagawa Shuya, who has a novel background of being a researcher in observational astrophysics. Please enjoy this fragrant prose poem, captured with a keen aesthetic eye.

If you are interested in ARTIS, we offer free distribution and free regular delivery. Please contact Memorial Gallery of Toshima Yasumasa (Direct phone; 03-35118162) or shigyo_collection@biotec1984.co.jp for inquiries. When applying, please provide your name and address.
